Basketball Recap: Hemingway Tigers vs. Carvers Bay Bears
The Hemingway Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their seventh straight loss. They suffered a tough 71-45 loss at the hands of Carvers Bay. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Hemingway of the 53-40 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jerel Hampton, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. Hampton hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Omarion Burgess, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Carvers Bay's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Darrius Bell, who scored eight points along with six assists and two steals. Bell continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Kenard Heyward was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Hemingway has been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-20 record this season. As for Carvers Bay, they pushed their record up to 14-9 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hemingway will take on the Wolverines at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in South Carolina (East Clarendon is ranked 293rd, while the Tigers are ranked 296th). As for Carvers Bay, they will be playing at home against the Flashes at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
