Baseball Game Preview: Crawford Colts vs. Hoover Cardinals

The Crawford Colts will venture away from home to face off against the Hoover Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Crawford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.

Crawford took a 14-run loss the last time they faced off against Mount Miguel, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Colts won by a run and slipped past the Matadors 6-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Colts.

Alejandro Guzman made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Crawford's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 4-1 (and 7-10 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Abraham Carillo-Ceron was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Crawford is 7-1 when Carillo-Ceron posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Ramon Perez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI.

Lincoln hit Hoover with a four-run second inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cardinals came up short against the Hornets, falling 13-4. The Cardinals have struggled against the Hornets recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Hoover's defeat dropped their record down to 1-20. As for Crawford, the win got them back to even at 11-11.

Crawford might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Hoover in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Colts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
