The Brooks Lions will venture away from home to face off against the Hatton Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Brooks is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Brooks will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Lexington on Friday. Brooks was the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over Lexington. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Golden Bears recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Hatton Behel looked comfortable as she tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Baylee Darby was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Preslie Bunch was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Brooks always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hatton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Pike Road 5-4.
Brianna Oliver spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Anna Potter, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
Hatton has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-8-1 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. Brooks now has a winning record of 5-4.
Brooks' speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. Brooks has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hatton, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Brooks continue to outrun the ball?
Brooks couldn't quite get it done against Hatton when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 10-6. Can Brooks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
