Baseball Game Preview: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons

Smithfield-Selma is 0-7 against C.B. Aycock since May of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The Spartans will look to defend their home field against the Golden Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Smithfield-Selma has given up an average of 12.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Smithfield-Selma is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They came up short against Knightdale, falling 14-3.

Ashton Fricks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Caden Cox was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dalton Gray, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

C.B. Aycock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Smithfield-Selma's loss dropped their record down to 1-21. As for C.B. Aycock, their victory bumped their record up to 9-12.
