St. John the Baptist scored the most points they've had this season on Sunday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 32-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Holy Cross Knights. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cougars came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Knights are ranked 260th).

When it comes to explaining why St. John the Baptist lost, don't look at Maurice Scott. Despite the final result, he rushed for 90 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, and also threw for 180 yards and one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Kalen Percer-Hogue, who gained 145 total yards.

St. John the Baptist's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Holy Cross, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Coming up, St. John the Baptist will venture away from home to challenge Kellenberg Memorial at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Cougars will be up against the Firebirds' rather soft defense (which has allowed 39 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
