Football Recap: Cole Underwood's Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. Petersburg over Palm Harbor University

The matchup between St. Petersburg and Palm Harbor University on Friday hardly resembled the 23-3 effort from their previous meeting. The Green Devils took a 38-21 bruising from the Hurricanes. The Green Devils have struggled against the Hurricanes recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Several Green Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cole Underwood, who threw for 209 yards and two TDs. St. Petersburg's leading receiver Thomas Grizzard was Underwood's top target yet again, picking up 135 receiving yards and one score.

Palm Harbor University had a senior duo take command as Ben Sathaporn rushed for 136 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Chris Silvestro rushed for 95 yards and one TD on only 12 carries. Those 136 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Sathaporn. John Daniels was in the mix too, providing Palm Harbor University with one score.

St. Petersburg now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Palm Harbor University, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Coming up, St. Petersburg will be playing at home against Lakewood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans' defense has only allowed 4.8 points per game this season, so the Green Devils' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Palm Harbor University, they will head out on the road to challenge Countryside at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
