Football Recap: South Brunswick Cougars vs. West Brunswick Trojans
South Brunswick kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They lost 34-14 to the West Brunswick Trojans. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it 11 in a row.
Although South Brunswick took the loss, they still got scores from Grady Sotriffer and Tyler Johnson.
South Brunswick didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Johnson and Corben Farrow. Johnson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Josiah Borton was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 96 yards and one TD, and also threw for 146 yards and one touchdown. Those 96 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.
South Brunswick and West Brunswick could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Cougars will take on North Brunswick at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (266 vs. 115). Meanwhile, West Brunswick (ranked 222nd) will meet Whiteville (ranked 85th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
