Basketball Recap: Pope John Paul II Victorious

The Pope John Paul II Knights were able to grind out a solid win over the Trinity Shamrocks on Saturday, taking the game 52-42. Those 52 points were actually the fewest the Knights have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

It was another big night for Trey Pearson, who shot 57% from the field on his way to 20 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. He has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cj Turner, who posted six points.

Pope John Paul II's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Trinity, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pope John Paul II will venture away from home to square off against LaVergne at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights will be up against the Wolverines' rather soft defense (which has allowed 82.25 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Trinity, they will head out on the road to challenge Male at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
