Baseball Game Preview: Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy Eagles vs. Babcock Trailblazers

After both having extra time off, the Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy Eagles and the Babcock Trailblazers will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles last Friday. Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy came out on top against Sarasota Military Academy by a score of 5-0.

Not much got past Leif Edoff, who gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Sarasota Military Academy off the board. Edoff has become a key player for Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 1-2 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Andrew Cordani, who scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Vincent Hernandez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Babcock's offense. They lost 10-0 to Sarasota Christian last Friday. The game marked the first time this year in which the Trailblazers were not able to get on the board.

Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Babcock, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 13 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Babcock struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts.
