Softball Recap: Vallejo Comes Up Short

If Vallejo was feeling good fresh off their 29-3 takedown of Ygnacio Valley on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Redhawks took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Emery Spartans on Friday. The Redhawks were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the four matches prior), but the Spartans' pitcher proved too tough.

Vallejo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Se'Maj McFarland, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

Vallejo has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6-1 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Emery, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-3.

Looking ahead, Vallejo will venture away from home to take on Richmond at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Oilers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 21.33 runs per game on average), something the Redhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Emery, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hercules at 4:00 p.m. on the 29th.
