Baseball Recap: McComb Takes a Loss

McComb extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 4-3. They came up short against the Columbia Wildcats, falling 18-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Tuesday.

As for Columbia, they pushed their record up to 7-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

For Columbia's part, Will Breland made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Breland has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Columbia is undefeated when Breland posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jonathan Lowery, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was JP Haddox, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Columbia beat McComb by a score of 17-2 later that day.
