Baseball Recap: Hilliard Comes Up Short

Hilliard was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 12-2 to the Fernandina Beach Pirates. That's two games in a row now that the Red Flashes have lost by exactly ten runs.

Hilliard saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Conner Bayless, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Bayless a new career-high in doubles (two).

Hilliard's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Fernandina Beach, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Hilliard and Fernandina Beach's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Hilliard will challenge Sandalwood at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a squad that's only allowed three runs per game. Meanwhile, Fernandina Beach and Oakleaf (who has only given up 3.71 runs per game) will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
