Softball Recap: Lutheran West's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Magnificat, Lutheran West was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Brooklyn Hurricanes by a score of 16-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The result was nothing new for the Longhorns, who have now won six matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Gabriella 'Gabi' List was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. List was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Emerson 'Emmy' Hayes was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Peyton Steinbrenner was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Lutheran West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .867. They are 8-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

With the win, Lutheran West broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-9. As for Brooklyn, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Looking ahead, Lutheran West will take on Rocky River at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Longhorns' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. Brooklyn does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
