Football Game Preview: Mira Loma Matadors vs. San Juan Spartans

Mira Loma is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Thursday. They will head out on the road to face off against the San Juan Spartans at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mira Loma has four straight wins, San Juan has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

San Juan's offense is going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Mira Loma hadn't allowed a single point the last four times they've hit the field. The Matadors simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Delta 44-0. While the Matadors didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-8), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Mira Loma's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Keion Kado, who picked up 75 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Another passer making a difference was Deangelo Keys, who threw for 114 yards and three TDs on only nine passes.

Mira Loma didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Wema Kyubwa, Edward Woodie Grant, and Josh Vakarau picked up one apiece.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for San Juan's offense. They were dealt a 52-0 loss at the hands of Vacaville Christian on Friday.

Mira Loma's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for San Juan, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Mira Loma strolled past San Juan in their previous matchup back in August of 2024 by a score of 40-26. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Spartans' Aiden Broadnax, who rushed for 245 yards and three scores while picking up 13.6 yards per carry. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be easier for the Matadors to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
