Baseball Recap: Chavez Comes Up Short

Chavez had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 4-15 to make it four. They fell just short of the McNair Eagles by a score of 10-8. The Titans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 4-1.

Chavez saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joseph Baltazar, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Baltazar has become a key player for the Titans: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-14 otherwise. Another was Makana Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

As for McNair, their record now sits at 5-13. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the contest before.

On McNair's side, Manny Moreira was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Moreira posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Andrew Padilla and Steven Hillery did most of the damage at the plate: Padilla went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Hillery went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those three runs gave Hillery a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mateo Palacios, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Coincidentally, Chavez and McNair will both be playing Stagg the next time they take the field. The Eagles will host the Delta Kings at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Titans will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
