Baseball Recap: West Scranton Drops Season-High Score on Scranton Prep

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but West Scranton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past the Scranton Prep Cavaliers 10-9. The Invaders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Caiden Berardi made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jason Selemba was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Lesh, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.

West Scranton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

West Scranton's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-6. As for Scranton Prep, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

Looking ahead, West Scranton will head out to take on Pocono Mountain West at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Invaders are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Scranton Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wallenpaupack Area at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
