Basketball Recap: Lakeland Falls Short of Rice Lake in the Playoffs

Lakeland and Rice Lake squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Lakeland had to settle for second. They fell 59-47 to the Rice Lake Warriors. The Thunderbirds' loss signaled the end of their 14-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Lakeland still got an impressive performance from Kristina Ouimette, who posted 24 points and eight rebounds. The game was Ouimette's 27th in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Evenhouse, who went 5-for-9 en route to 11 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rice Lake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Addison Schmidt, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 18 boards. Schmidt has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Adaline Sheplee, who shot 4-for-7 from deep and almost dropped a double-double with 24 points and nine rebounds.

Lakeland's defeat dropped their record down to 22-5. As for Rice Lake, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-5.

Lakeland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rice Lake, they have already played their next match, a 54-46 win against Shawano Community on the 8th.
