Basketball Recap: Chance Daake's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sumner-Eddyville-Miller over Amherst

It looked like the Kentucky Derby when Sumner-Eddyville-Miller duked it out with Amherst on Friday. The Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs received a blow as they fell 54-39 to the Amherst Broncos. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 44-42 last Thursday.

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chance Daake, who posted 12 points and five boards. Daake is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last five games he's played. Jayce Boteo-Mazariegos was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Amherst, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
