Basketball Game Preview: Stoughton Vikings vs. McFarland Spartans

The Stoughton Vikings will venture away from home to square off against the McFarland Spartans at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

McFarland will be up against a hot Stoughton team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Stoughton walked away with a 64-51 victory over Lakeside Lutheran on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, McFarland had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 81-56 win. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Eagles are ranked 405th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

McFarland pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.7 points over those games. As for Stoughton, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.

Stoughton came up short against McFarland in their previous matchup back in January, falling 74-65. Can Stoughton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
