The Spartans took a 66-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Johnston Wildcats on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost eight in a row.

Despite the loss, Smithfield-Selma saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Johnavon Cox shot 73% from the field en route to 28 points and six boards. Cox is on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 56% in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Jimmy Raiford was another key player, putting up eight points.
