League recap: Bayside Academy climbs in standings with win

3A Region 1 recap Sept. 26, 2012

Bayside Academy was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in 3A Region 1. The Admirals beat the Admirals 37-35 earlier in the week.

T.R. Miller extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Bayside Academy, 37-35. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.

Excel's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. James Hudson threw for 41 and one touchdown and Joe Crutchfield had 38 yards receiving. On the ground Dekota Welker chipped in 69 yards. Trevor Tuberville helped Excel's passing attack out by catching three balls for 20 yards.

Straughn's Chase Short and Daryl George have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Short has thrown for 194 yards this season, while George, a 5-foot-6 receiver, has five catches for 90 yards. The Panthers' Welker leads the league in rushing yards with 378.

W.S. Neal took down Southside 54-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
