Football Game Preview: Canyon Lake Hawks vs. Pleasanton Eagles

The Canyon Lake Hawks will take on the Pleasanton Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Canyon Lake is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Davenport on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Hawks were beaten by the Wolves 46-14. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 396th, while the Wolves are ranked 96th).

Canyon Lake might have lost, but man, Jace Wheeler was a machine: he threw for 232 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 39 yards and one score.

While Canyon Lake came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Davenport: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 48.1%. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for the Hawks; they were averaging 60.4%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 60.4%.

Meanwhile, Pleasanton lost to Uvalde at home by a 45-28 margin on Friday. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Pleasanton now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Canyon Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.

Canyon Lake strolled past Pleasanton when the teams last played back in November of 2024 by a score of 42-24. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
