Basketball Game Preview: Chula Vista Spartans vs. Holtville Vikings

The Chula Vista Spartans and the Holtville Vikings will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Chula Vista will be strutting in after a win while Holtville will be coming in after a defeat.

Chula Vista is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Warner 58-35 on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Holtville came up short against Vincent Memorial on Tuesday and fell 51-44. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Chula Vista will need to focus on slowing down David Sussex, one of several Holtville players who made an impact when they last played. He almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine boards. Sussex is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Banuelos, who posted nine points along with five assists and three steals.

Holtville's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Chula Vista, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.

Chula Vista won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in January, slipping by Holtville 67-66. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
