Katz Yeshiva is 0-3 against Highlands Christian since March of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Storm will face off against the Knights at 6:30 p.m. Katz Yeshiva is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Katz Yeshiva fell victim to Atlantic Christian and their airtight pitching crew last Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Sharks. The game marked the first time this year in which the Storm were not able to get on the board.
Katz Yeshiva saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Olsen, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Highlands Christian had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past the Bulldogs 15-1. Considering the Knights have won seven contests by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Matthew Friedman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Watach, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Steven Perals, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Highlands Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berean Christian only posted a batting average of .071.
Highlands Christian pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Katz Yeshiva, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Katz Yeshiva has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .496. However, it's not like Highlands Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .565. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Katz Yeshiva suffered a grim 18-4 defeat to Highlands Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Storm avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
