Baseball Recap: Clinton Prairie Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

Clinton Prairie's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Sheridan Blackhawks by a score of 6-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-1 two weeks ago.

Kye Jacobs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Clinton Prairie's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Harshbarger, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Elijah Edwards was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Clinton Prairie's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sheridan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clinton Prairie will host Cascade at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Gophers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cadets have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Sheridan, they will be playing at home against Eastern at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Comets will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Blackhawks surely won't give up without a fight.
