Basketball Recap: Hickory Comes Up Short

Hickory easily dispatched West Iredell last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Hickory Red Tornadoes fell just short of the Foard Tigers by a score of 50-48 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, with their most recent loss being a 50-43 defeat back in January.

Foard got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kinzer Abernathy out in front who went 5-for-9 to rack up 14 points. Abernathy is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games she's played. Gabby Sutcliffe was another key player, putting up eight points and five boards.

Hickory's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Foard, their win bumped their record up to 13-10.

Hickory didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-32 victory against Statesville on the 14th. As for Foard, they have also already played their next contest, a 45-30 win against St. Stephens on the 14th.
