Recap: Chandler Wolves vs. Red Mountain Mountain Lions
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 20 to ten on the offensive boards, a fact the Chandler Wolves proved on Friday. They came out on top against Red Mountain by a score of 48-37. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Chandler also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Chandler found their leader in underclassman Jayla Freeman, who scored ten points. Freeman is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesminda Garcia, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Red Mountain's loss came despite strong showings from Macy Johnson and Joselyn Acosta. Johnson scored 11 points, while Acosta scored four points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for her.
Chandler's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Red Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-1.
Chandler will look to defend their home court on Monday against O'Connor at 7:00 p.m. O'Connor's defense has only allowed 27.8 points per game this season, so Chandler's offense will have their work cut out for Chandler. Red Mountain and Maryvale will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The timing isn't great for Maryvale: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Red Mountain has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
