Football Recap: Oviedo Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Oviedo strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their defense stepped up to hand the Seminole Seminoles a 14-0 shutout. The Lions have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Seminoles, too.

The critical scores for Oviedo came from Alyson Scharf and LILY MCCASLIN.

Oviedo didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Seminole to a completion percentage of just 31.8%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: ALIYAH WAHL, KAITLYN FALK, and JADA JOY, who each logged one passes deflected. Oviedo wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 52.6%.

Oviedo's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Seminole's QB won't forget KIARA HERNANDEZ anytime soon given she sacked her twice. HERNANDEZ is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last 16 games she's played dating back to last season.

Oviedo pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 1.4 points on average over those games. As for Seminole, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oviedo will head out to challenge Boone at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Lions 2, the Braves 13.2) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Seminole, they will venture away from home to square off against Pine Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
