Basketball Preview: Coolidge Yellowjackets vs. Penelope Wolverines
Coolidge is on a four-game streak of home wins, while the Wolverines are on a nine-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Coolidge Yellowjackets will take on the Penelope Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Coolidge strolled past the Panthers with points to spare, taking the game 42-27.
Meanwhile, Penelope didn't have too much trouble with the Eagles at home on Friday as they won 61-46. Given Penelope's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 700th, while the Eagles are ranked 1510th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Penelope had a senior duo take command as Jayden Schwarz dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds and Michael Corson dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Schwarz hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 18 straight games.
Coolidge has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Penelope, their victory bumped their record up to 23-2.
Coolidge and the Wolverines were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in January, but the Yellowjackets came up empty-handed after a 55-54 loss. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Schwarz, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 22 rebounds. Now that Coolidge knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
