Softball Recap: Northside Patriots vs. Kell Longhorns
Northside had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against the Kell Longhorns by a score of 6-3 on Thursday. The win was familiar territory for the Patriots who have now won 29 contests in a row.
Abby Lovell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Maiya Schmanski and Loreal Byrd did most of the damage at the plate: Schmanski scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Byrd scored two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, Schmanski also racked up three hits, the most she's had since back in October of 2023. Gracie Conkle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double.
Northside's victory bumped their record up to 32-2. As for Kell, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 27-6 record.
