Baseball Recap: Maiden Takes a Loss

Maiden came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 14-7 to the Hickory Red Tornadoes. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red Tornadoes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Ethan Whittaker and Brycen James did some serious damage despite the final result: Whittaker scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while James scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Whittaker a new career-high in RBI (three). Zane Williams also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Maiden's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Hickory, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1.

Maiden has already played their next matchup, a 5-2 victory against West Lincoln on the 7th. As for Hickory, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 13-0 loss against East Lincoln on the 11th.
