Preston hadn't done well against Robert C. Byrd recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Knights narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Eagles 4-2. For the Knights, this counts as revenge for the 6-5 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2025.

Nevaeh West spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sophie Zinn was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Rachel Hamrick, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The victory snapped Preston's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-10 record. As for Robert C. Byrd, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Preston will venture away from home to face off against Philip Barbour at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Colts have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.86 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Robert C. Byrd, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Grafton at 5:00 p.m. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
