Basketball Recap: Roy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jesse Jones and Colby Frokjer

Roy lost against Woods Cross back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Roy Royals lost 72-47 to the Woods Cross Wildcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Royals have suffered since February 21, 2024.

Roy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Colby Frokjer, who posted 18 points and five boards, and Jesse Jones, who went 8 of 13 en route to 16 points. Frokjer has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Stirland, who put up eight points.

Woods Cross' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nate Smith-Mecham led the charge by shooting 4-for-6 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Hunter Jackson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards.

Roy has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Woods Cross, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roy will venture away from home to take on Bountiful at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Bountiful's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Woods Cross, they will head out on the road to challenge Northridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Woods Cross is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.4 points per game this season.
