Baseball Recap: Oxford Snags Third Victory in Last Four Games

It was a proper cat-fight when Oxford took on Armada on Friday. The Wildcats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers an 11-0 shutout. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 2-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Michael DiGaetano tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Liam O'Neill was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Drew Cady was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBI.

Oxford is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-11-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Armada, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-9-1.

Looking ahead, Oxford will challenge Port Huron at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday. As for Armada, they will host L'Anse Creuse North at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
