Basketball Recap: Gibbon Takes a Loss

After flying high against Blue Hill last Tuesday, Gibbon came back down to earth. The Gibbon Buffaloes came up short against the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals on Friday, falling 74-51. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Buffaloes of the 61-38 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.

Parker Volk was his usual excellent self, going 13 of 14 on his way to 31 points and six rebounds for Doniphan-Trumbull. The matchup was Volk's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Poppe, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 assists.

Gibbon's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Doniphan-Trumbull, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Gibbon will challenge Amherst at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Doniphan-Trumbull has already played their next game, a 56-48 victory against Adams Central on the 18th.
