Basketball Game Preview: Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions vs. Marathon Dolphins

The Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions will challenge the Marathon Dolphins at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Marathon is hoping to do what Florida Christian couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Immaculata-La Salle's winning streak, which now stands at four games. Immaculata-La Salle simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Florida Christian 51-15. Given the Royal Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Patriots are ranked 447th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Immaculata-La Salle's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexandra Gonzalez Casar, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Peilin Aguilar-Hou, who posted 12 points along with five assists and three steals.

Immaculata-La Salle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marathon). They claimed a resounding 66-26 win over Mater Bay Academy. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Dolphins had established a 31 point advantage.

Immaculata-La Salle pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 15.7 points per game. As for Marathon, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5.

Immaculata-La Salle skirted past Marathon 48-45 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Does Immaculata-La Salle have another victory up their sleeve, or will Marathon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
