Baseball Game Preview: Wellsville Lions vs. Medina Mustangs

The Wellsville Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Medina Mustangs at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Wellsville's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Allegany-Limestone as they made off with a 19-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Gators: they've now won seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Medina strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Albion with a sharp 19-0 win. The matchup marked the Mustangs' most dominant victory of the season.

Preston Woodworth was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aidan Papaj, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Wellsville's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Medina, their victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0.

Wellsville couldn't quite get it done against Medina when the teams last played back in June of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
