Basketball Recap: Pleasant Hope Pirates vs. Marionville Comets
The Pleasant Hope Pirates lost against the Marionville Comets back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Pleasant Hope was dealt a 72-16 defeat at the hands of the Comets. Pleasant Hope was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-10.
Leading Marionville to victory were Anna Bright and Lucy Newberry. Bright went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 1 assist, while Newberry scored 26 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bright has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Dally Pomeroy, who scored six points along with two steals.
Pleasant Hope's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-12. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.3 points per game. As for Marionville, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pleasant Hope will take on the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Miller presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Pirates in Missouri (the Cardinals are ranked 147th, while the Pirates are ranked 425th). As for Marionville, they will head out on the road to face off against the Bears on Saturday.
