Basketball Recap: Northampton County Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Northampton County duked it out withWilson Prep on Friday. The Northampton County Jaguars were outmatched by the Wilson Prep Tigers and fell 64-16. The Jaguars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-10.

They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Kaiyah Cherry and Lydia Deloatch, who each put up five points. Kaniyah Bottoms held things down on the boards with three rebounds.

Wilson Prep found their leader in freshman Paris Best, who almost dropped a triple-double on 21 points, nine assists, and ten steals. With that strong performance, Best is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Nakiya Boston, who went 7 for 10 on her way to 16 points and five steals.

Northampton County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Wilson Prep, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-1.

Northampton County has already played their next game (against Rocky Mount Prep), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Wilson Prep and Southern Nash will face off at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Southern Nash has won three straight at home, while Wilson Prep won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
