Baseball Recap: Middleton Comes Up Short

While it was Middleton who put the first points on the board on Saturday, it was Blake who put up more. The Middleton Tigers fell just short of the Blake Yellow Jackets by a score of 7-6. The Tigers' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Suhaan Vusirikala put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He also stole a stolen base, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Ahiam Olmeda and Darrion Marchman stepped up to the plate in a big way. Olmeda scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Marchman scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Marchman a new career-high. Marco Pursley also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Middleton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Blake, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-7.

Middleton and Blake could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Middleton (ranked 533rd) will meet Wharton (ranked 82nd) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Middleton has given up an average of 14.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. Meanwhile, Blake will challenge Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday down 271 places (521 vs. 250).
