Softball Game Preview: Eagle Mountain Knights vs. Western Hills Cougars

The Eagle Mountain Knights will square off against the Western Hills Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Eagle Mountain nor Springtown made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Knights took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Porcupines. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Eagle Mountain saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashlyn Eggleton, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Meanwhile, Western Hills entered their tilt with Southwest on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 15-14 W against the Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since March 5, 2024.

Addison Dudley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered nine earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 16 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Eva Almendarez, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophia Castellanos, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Western Hills' victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Eagle Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 14-13-1.
