Baseball Recap: Warsaw Comes Up Short

Warsaw extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-8 in the process. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Perry Yellowjackets. Tigers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Yellowjackets since on Wednesday.

As for Perry, the victory got them back to even at 5-5. The game was the first time they have beaten Warsaw on their field since April 29, 2019.

For Perry's part, Parker McGarvey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. McGarvey also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Yellowjackets are 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-4 otherwise.

At the plate, Beau Solcum was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Perry is 3-1 when Solcum posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Maximus Siewert, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Warsaw will square off against Keshequa at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Indians will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Perry, they will face off against Wayland-Cohocton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Yellowjackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
