Basketball Recap: Harmony Comes Up Short

After flying high against Celebration last Tuesday, Harmony came back down to earth. The Harmony Longhorns had to suffer through a 76-46 loss at the hands of the Gateway Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while the Panthers are ranked 72nd).

Gateway's win on Wednesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alyssa Marino, who went 8 of 14 on her way to 22 points along with seven assists and seven boards. Marino has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 16 times she's played. Ashlynn Day was another key player, dropping a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds.

Harmony's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Gateway, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Harmony will face off against Tohopekaliga at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Gateway, they will challenge St. Cloud at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Gateway's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
