Softball Recap: Bordentown Scotties vs. Delran Bears

Bordentown had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 9-8 to make it four. They fell just short of the Delran Bears by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 two weeks ago.

As for Delran, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games.

For Delran's part, Mary Masterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. Masterson has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Delran let Arianna Martinez and Gemma DeJoseph run wild. Martinez got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI and one double, while DeJoseph went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. DeJoseph has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Haskell, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Bordentown will welcome Steinert at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Delran, they will head out to take on Seneca at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
