Baseball Recap: New Castle Comes Up Short

New Castle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ellwood City Wolverine. The Hurricanes were not able to make up for their loss to the Wolverine from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Carlo DeSalvo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

New Castle's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Ellwood City, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Castle will face off against Mars at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ellwood City, they will welcome Riverside at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Riverside will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Ellwood City surely won't give up without a fight.
