Football Game Preview: Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears vs. Plainview Pirates

Two dominant signal callers in Drey Puppe and Gage Walton are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears will host the Plainview Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge easily dispatched Lutheran-Northeast last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Bears fell just short of Elkhorn Valley by a score of 34-31 on Friday.

The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Puppe and Jarett Werner. Werner had a great game and threw for 203 yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Puppe was balling out in the loss, rushing for 111 yards and a pair of scores.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Puppe picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He has been hot recently, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Plainview was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] 41-7. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won three matchups by 24 points or more so far this season.

Plainview's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 162.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Plainview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 190.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge suffered a grim 55-34 defeat to Plainview when the teams last played back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Bears were down 34-0.
