It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Washington Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Mount Desert Island Trojans as they made off with a 12-6 win. The Raiders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Trojans, too.

James Welch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, Colby Moholland was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Daniel Gardner was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Washington Academy has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington Academy will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Foxcroft Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Ponies will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mount Desert Island, they will be playing at home against Old Town at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
