Basketball Recap: Ava Jones' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Caldwell over Smithville

Caldwell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 45-34 to the Smithville Tigers. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ava Jones, who posted eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chassidy Rogers, who scored seven points.

Caldwell's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Smithville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.

Caldwell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 75-41 defeat against La Grange on the 14th. As for Smithville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 36-28 victory against Navasota on the 14th.
