Basketball Recap: Johnsburg Central Jaguars vs. Lake Placid Bombers
This season hasn't been kind to the Johnsburg Central Jaguars, who are still winless after their 11th match. They suffered a tough 49-26 defeat at the hands of Lake Placid on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Johnsburg Central of the 47-29 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nick Sauer-Jones, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sauer-Jones is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Angelo Galle, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds.
Johnsburg Central struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They are winless (0-4) when they just don't pass the ball.
Seb Cecunjanin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lake Placid, scoring 22 points. Owen Hayes was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Johnsburg Central dropped their record down to 0-11 with that loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Lake Placid, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Johnsburg Central won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Beavers at 6:30 p.m. on January 31st. Averaging 67.69 points so far this season, Keene Central's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Jaguars better be ready for a challenge. As for Lake Placid, they will be playing at home against the Indians at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Indian Lake Central is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
