The James Island Trojans will face off against the West Ashley Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Last Thursday, James Island blew past Stall, posting an 80-41 victory. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
James Island's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Ward led the charge by putting up 13 points and eight assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Triplin, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards.
James Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but West Ashley had no problem doing just that on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Knights 67-36. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-20.
West Ashley found their leader in sophomore Jackson Terrell, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Terrell has scored all season. Kendell Mack was another key player, putting up 13 points and five steals.
West Ashley has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points over those games. As for James Island, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-8.
James Island took their win against West Ashley in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 71-50. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Mack, who went 11-for-25 to rack up 37 points.
